I am currently the Pastor of Worship and Arts at Forest Hill Church in Charlotte, NC. Though I have led worship in a variety of venues over the last 20+ years, giving pastoral oversight in this ministry is very new and carries a very unique distinctive that has shed light on the event of corporate worship. Without the focus on the performance aspect of worship as I have for the past 2 decades, I have had to think more philosophically and practically as one who, now, is helping to facilitate worship through others. (Man, does my brain hurt!)
One of the major objectives of the corporate worship experience in the Christian Church is to encourage the congregation to engage God in a way that is natural, inspiring and worthy of God. This blog will attempt to elaborate on elements I believe critical in inspiring and helping a community of worshipers to be more open, engaged, and affectionate with God. Much of the content of my posts will deal with the musical aspect though I hope to offer some insights to other necessary, non-musical dynamics that enhance the experience of worship that can make it both E-ffective and A-ffective in ways meaningful to both the ones worshiping and the One worshiped.
I hope my comments will be helpful to fellow-worshipers, lay and clergy, but ultimately, I hope and pray that this may be an aid to the Body of Christ in her call to exalt her Lord in spirit and in truth!
As with all blogs, the perspective is both subjective and progressive. (Consider that an adequate, humble disclaimer against any claim to exhaustive, comprehensive knowledge. I’m still a-learnin’!)
By the way, “Imprinted” is short for “Imprinted Ministries”, the name of my beyond-church ministry. You can check out that website by clicking here.
i recently found an old tape of your music – You were one of my early piano influences. Great to see that you’re still around !
What an honor to be remembered. Thank you! Hope the Lord is blessing you in divine abundance!
